Science and Innovation

The Science and Innovation section in the British High Commission is part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s global Science and Innovation Network (SIN). Co-ordinated by the FCO Science and Innovation Group (SIG) in London, the network reports to a wide customer base and works with a number of UK organisations with an interest in science and technology overseas.

Our main areas of activity are:
• Fostering collaboration between scientists in the UK and Singapore;
• Analysis and reporting on research and technology developments in Singapore to inform UK government policy and to keep UK industries and academe abreast of developments in Singapore;
• Raising awareness of UK S&I strengths, promoting the UK as modern, creative, successful and relevant;
• Working closely with our UK Trade and Investment colleagues to promote inward investment and trade; and
• Co-ordinating S&I activities regionally in partnership with UK missions across South East Asia

UK-Singapore Partners in Science, Partners of Choice

The UK-Singapore Partners in Science initiative started as a year-long campaign to celebrate the excellence of UK Science and highlight collaborative opportunities with Singapore. The campaign was launched by HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and run by the British High Commission, Singapore.

The campaign was such a success in delivering real benefits to the UK-Singapore science relationship that in July 2005, then British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong decided to convert the campaign into a long-term strategic programme. Since then, over 20 workshops have been held across a range of UK-Singapore Partners in Science Programmes.

More information about the initiative can be found here.
