Trade & Investment Assistant (Singapore)

Responsibilities:

Working in the UK Trade and Investment section, responsible for helping UK companies develop their business in Singapore, the individual will:

  • Undertake market research on behalf of British companies
  • Identify potential contacts within the Singaporean business community and create visit programmes for officials or companies to call on these
  • Manage events including company launch events; seminars; and networking events
  • Maintain internal databases and Client Relationship Management tools
  • Provide assistance to companies exhibiting at trade fairs, participating in missions or visiting either the UK or Singapore
  • Answer enquiries on doing business in Singapore
  • Maintain published information on the business opportunities in Singapore.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will:

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have excellent written and spoken English
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain client relationships
  • Event management experience would be an advantage
  • Market Research experience would also be useful
  • Knowledge or experience of international trade would also be an advantage
  • The job holder must be prepared to undertake occasional travel to the UK and within the region
  • BHC office hours are 08:30 - 17:00 but some evening and weekend work will be required
  • Experience of working in the private sector or international trade would be an advantage.

The British High Commission urgently seeks a Regional Learning & Development Manager to start in January 2010.

We are looking for a full time Regional Learning & Development Manager who will be responsible for managing the Singapore Regional Training Centre and delivering core management and soft skills training for locally engaged employees and UK diplomats based in South East Asia and Australasia.

Main role:
  • Deliver and evaluate training for locally engaged employee and UK diplomats located at British missions in South East Asia and Australasia. Training programmes include soft skills development, leadership training and coaching skills
  • Partner with HR London and line managers to plan, define and develop learning & development strategy, interact with regional management to determine training needs and priorities, and implementation of learning and development plans
  • Consult with management to conduct overall needs assessments and skill gap analyses to ensure learning & development needs are met
  • Provide guidance to management on preparing section/post learning and development strategies, and evaluating training effectiveness within their particular team
  • Lead a Regional Learning & Development team
  • Manage the RTC’s operational budget
  • Design & develop additional courses depending on the needs of the network as well as in co-ordination with London HR and other RTC’s. Research new trends and techniques in training delivery and make recommendations
  • Conduct health checks and internal reviews to assist managers in maintaining "Investor in People" standards.

Requirements/Essential skills:

  • Extensive experience of delivering a range of soft skills training in either a public or private sector environment
  • Experience and/or knowledge of leadership development and/or coaching would be a distinct advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of learning and development processes including needs assessment, learning objectives, delivery methods and evaluation
  • Strong knowledge of communications practices, principles and procedures for both on-site and virtual presentations
  • Outstanding verbal, presentation, written, and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience of dealing with and influencing senior managers
  • Willingness and ability to travel the South East Asian and Australasian region as much as one week per month
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lead by example and foster mentoring relationships
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.

Desirable skills:

Management, coaching and/or human resources experience.

Benefit package includes:

  • LE I salary scale from S$3,936 to S$5,928 per month + CPF, payable 14 times per year

The British High Commission seeks a Communications Manager, to start as soon as possible.    

You will be responsible for the planning and execution of a broad range of communications activities - marketing communications, media relations and public relations work - to achieve the corporate objectives of the British High Commission in Singapore, as outlined in the Country Business Plan.

You will support the work of other UK Government agencies, in particular UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

Main duties:

  • Provide strategic marketing communications support and advice for the High Commission and UKTI. This includes developing and creating marketing strategies, and publicity and marketing materials
  • To lead, together with the Director of Communications and HR Manager, on internal communications and communications with partner publications/organisations
  • To develop, oversee and maintain the quality of the British High Commission website, e-zines and Intranet
  • Provide media relations and public relations support. Assist in developing useful and wide-ranging relationships with the media
  • To deputise for the Director of Communications where required.


Knowledge and competences required:

  • Relevant public relations/media relations/corporate communications experience. A degree in marketing/journalism/public relations will be an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Display the ability to think strategically. The candidate must be able to evaluate and prioritise projects with an emphasis on results and a “best value proposition”
  • Good IT-skills and proficient in MS Office suite of programs and Web 2.0 tools. Candidates with web publishing and graphic design experience are preferred
  • Resourceful and a self-starter, but able to work as part of a wider team. Ability to multi-task effectively
  • Knowledge of spoken and written Chinese is not essential, but will be an advantage.

The British High Commission seeks a Regional IT Trainer Asia Pacific, starting as soon as possible. 

Main purpose of the post:

Based in Singapore, reporting directly to the regional Head of Learning and Development, the Regional IT Trainer will work to support the Regional Training Centre (RTC) Network’s Strategic Plan by designing and delivering IT Training to all staff at posts across the Asia Pacific region.

Working closely with HR Learning & Development and IT Training Department, the incumbent will develop, design, deliver and evaluate programmes to improve IT capability across the organisation. Extensive travel for delivery of training at posts across the region will be required, as well as delivery of training at RTCs.

Main duties will include:
  • Design and deliver a range of IT courses (spanning from Microsoft Office to bespoke Foreign and Commonwealth Office applications) as agreed by Learning & Development and IT Training Teams in London
  • Deliver IT modules in the RTC’s  portfolio to all staff as required
  • Initiate and support learning interventions at posts ie conducting skills gap analysis, designing and delivering IT Training and evaluating effectiveness of training
  • Share best practice with other Regional IT Trainers and the I&TD Training Team on the practical issues involving the RTC network
  • Under guidance from the regional Head of L&D, deliver feedback to stakeholders ie Heads of Mission, Deputy Heads of Mission, Senior Management Officers, Training Liaison Officers on common themes and staff concerns identified in post training visits and propose learning solutions, if necessary

Requirements:

Knowledge and competences required:

  • A good degree in any discipline
  • At least three years of working experience in delivering IT-related training.  Experience in delivering soft skills training will be an advantage
  • Knowledgeable and competent in Microsoft Office Packages, common IT applications and systems
  • Proven ability in conducting needs assessment, curriculum development and design, and training programme facilitation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational, planning, training and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated, independent, and effective team player
  • Willingness to travel
  • Fluency in other languages of the Asia Pacific region will be a distinct advantage.

Working Hours: 08:30 - 17:00, Monday - Friday
