Paul Madden, British High Commissioner, Singapore
Paul Madden has been British High Commissioner in Singapore since February 2007. A career diplomat, he was Managing Director at UK Trade & Investment (2004-6) and Assistant Director of Information at the FCO (2003-4).
Previous overseas postings include Singapore (2000-2003), Washington (1996-2000) and Tokyo (1988-92). He has also worked on EU enlargement and Climate Change issues at the FCO. He spent 6 years at the DTI in the 1980s, including two years as a minister's Private Secretary.
He has an MA in Economic Geography from Cambridge, an MBA from Durham, studied Japanese at London University's School of Oriental and African Studies, and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. His first book "Raffles: Lessons in Business Leadership" was published in 2003.
