When things go wrong

If you are a victim of a crime

We can give general information about local police and legal procedures.

Help if you are arrested or detained

British nationals arrested abroad should contact the relevant British embassy, high commission or consulate.

If you become sick or are injured abroad you should seek medical attention locally if you feel you need it.

If you are seriously ill or injured

We aim to contact you within 24 hours of being told that you have been admitted to hospital.

Rape and sexual assault

If you have been sexually assaulted whilst abroad you should tell the relevant embassy/high commission as soon as possible.

International parental child abduction is a human rights issue and one that we take very seriously.

UK police records

At present, the UK authorities do not provide police clearance certificates.
