Applying for a UK passport in Singapore after
22 March 2010
New Application Process for British Passports
If you are living in or visiting Singapore and require to renew or apply for a first-time British Passport please note that from 22 March 2010 applications will be processed in Hong Kong. Please visit the page for Singapore on the British Consulate General Hong Kong’s website at http://ukinhongkong.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/apply-from-se-asia/singapore and the British High Commission Singapore website at http://ukinsingapore.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/applying-in-singapore/ for further details under “Help for British Nationals”.
Passport applications should be submitted directly to the British Consulate General in Hong Kong by the applicant. We recommend that applications and required documents are sent by courier. We have negotiated a rate with DHL and a list of their offices in Singapore where applications may be sent from can be found on the websites already given.
Passport applications submitted to Hong Kong take 10 working days to process from the receipt of a correctly completed and paid for application, plus 4 days courier time. There is no fast-track service available. Applications are dealt with strictly in the order that they are received and are not prioritised, except in the most compelling compassionate circumstances. It is therefore essential that you apply for your passport well in advance of your planned travel date. Please note that most countries require a minimum of 6 months validity on passports after the date of your travel.
Additional pages cannot be added or inserted into UK passports. If your passport is full, you will need to apply for a replacement.
If your passport is lost or stolen in Singapore
You should report the loss or theft of your UK passport to the local police and get a police report as soon as possible.
You must then inform the British High Commission Singapore and apply for a replacement passport. To do this, you need to:
• complete the lost or theft of the passport notification form LS01 [PDF, 1.1MB, opens in new window]
• complete the correct passport application form and provide the required documents, including 2 identical passport photographs that meet the required biometric standards
• take both forms, along with the police report, to our local office
• pay the correct fee
There may also be a call out fee for issuing a temporary or emergency passport outside of office hours.
Applying for a passport in the UK?
If you are planning to visit the UK you may also apply for a new passport via the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) in person. In order to do this, you need to make an appointment with IPS in the UK and you must provide an address in the UK to which the passport may be posted and where they will be available to sign for the receipt of the passport. Please note that IPS do not accept applications by post or e-mail if you live abroad. It is possible to pay for a quicker “Premium” service in the UK. You will find all the forms you need and full application instructions on the IPS website at www.ips.gov.uk.
Replacement visa
It is your responsibility to ensure that any valid visas are transferred into the new passport by the Singapore Immigration Authority and/or the relevant Embassy.
