Passports
We no longer issue standard (10 year) British passports at this High Commission. You now need to apply for your passport at our Regional Passport Processing Centre (RPPC) in Hong Kong. The Regional Passport Processing Centre website will tell you everything you need to know about applying for a new or replacement British passport.
Why have we done this? Please see this leaflet [PDF, 77kb, opens in new window] for all the changes related to the way we issue passports overseas. If you need to travel urgently and your standard passport is not available we may be able to help you with emergency travel documentation:
To obtain an Emergency Travel Document (ETD), please read the following carefully.
- Applicant should already be a British passport holder.
- Applicants of all ages must apply in person.
- You will need to enquire if the country you are planning to travel to accepts ETDs by contacting that country's embassy.
- An ETD is valid for only one journey out of Singapore which can be to a maximum of five destinations before re-entering Singapore.
- A person may be issued with only 2 ETDs within a 12 month period.
- A person may not hold 2 ETDs at the same time. Therefore apply for ETDs only in the order of the dates of your travel. The first ETD must be surrendered before a second ETD can be issued.
- An ETD is usually processed within one working day, provided all relevant documentation as listed below is complete and made available at the time of application.
Note: First time applicants e.g. babies may not be eligible for an ETD. Travel should not be planned for at least 8 weeks after birth to allow enough time for a full validity passport to be obtained through the Regional Passport Processing Centre.
Please bring the following:
- Recently taken passport sized photograph
- Proof of your confirmed travel plans (e.g. travel itinerary, hotel booking etc.)
- If you are resident in Singapore, proof that your passport is unavailable (If lost/stolen; a police report is required. If needing replacement, it must first be sent off for renewal and the courier air waybill is required to prove your application has been sent off to the RPPC).
If you are returning to the UK and intend to apply for the one day Premium service to renew it there, please call the Passport Advice Line at +44 300 222 0000 to make the appointment for it and bring proof or declare that you have made the appointment. You will be issued a one way ETD to the UK and will be expected to then obtain your full validity passport whilst you are in the UK.
- Copy of passport data page (if unavailable please bring in another form of photo ID)
- If you are a visitor in Singapore and do not have the time to apply for a replacement passport and are due to travel home to the UK soon, please bring in your current passport. If your travel plans are more extensive, we would be happy to explain the options available to you when you come to the Consular Section.
- For applicants under 16, please bring in the following information:
both parents' (1)full names, (2)dates of birth, (3)place of birth, (4)country of birth, both parents' passports' (5)numbers, (6)dates of issue and (7)places of issue
