Our “Innovation Nation” campaign was launched by Mervyn Davies , UK Minister for Trade, Investment & Business during his visit to Singapore in April.

September 10-11: Healthcare Trade Mission
UKTI is organising a two-day visit to Singapore in September to help 10 UK companies access wide-ranging opportunities in the healthcare market. The Singapore government has recently committed S$4 billion over five years to expand healthcare infrastructure.

September 28-30: UK-Singapore Bio Imaging Symposium
The British High Commission and the Institute of Molecular Biology are organising a symposium on "Seeing is Believing: Imaging in biology and disease" in Singapore in September. This workshop will serve as a platform for researchers from the UK and Singapore to present their findings on imaging research, and to integrate biomedical sciences with engineering and physical sciences.

October 1: Presentation of the inaugural UKTI Award for Innovation
This award forms part of the British Business Awards 2009 which are presented by the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore. UKTI is sponsoring this award to celebrate the UK’s excellence in innovation and creativity. This award will recognise a company or an individual, who has made a significant contribution to strengthening this excellence. Nominations closed on August 10.

October 2: Water Futures: Academia and Industry Forum
UK-Singapore Partners in Science, Nanyang Technological University, UKTI and the Royal Society of Chemistry are organising a one-day Water Technology Workshop in October to bring experts from both academia and industry to discuss the latest water technology opportunities for collaboration.

October 27: UK Excellence in Building a Sustainable Built Environment
UKTI is organising a reception to celebrate the UK’s success in green buildings and sustainability within the built environment.
The event will coincide with Singapore’s Green Buildings Week and take place at Suntec Exhibition Centre, the evening before the flagship conference International Green Building Conference, organised by the Building and Construction Authority. The reception will showcase UK companies’ excellence in green building projects. 15 UK companies will be participating by displaying panels and 3D physical models of their work.

November 12-13: Rail Mission
UKTI is bringing UK companies to Singapore in November to help them access upcoming opportunities in this sector.
In January 2008, the Singapore government announced that it was going to double its metro (MRT) system network by 2020, spending S$40bn on infrastructure projects including rail and road. Please see attached registration letter.

November 20-30: Singapore Design Festival
The UK will be participating in the 3rd biennial Singapore Design Festival - a meeting place for designers, thought-leaders and clients of the world to establish how design can make a difference.
The UK presence will include a seminar hosted by Sir Terence Conran, the award-winning designer from the UK and the showing of Love & Money - UKTI’s multiscreen film exhibition designed to promote the UK’s creative industries overseas. Asia TV Forum is the leading programming market in Asia where international content sellers meet Asia buyers and partners to sell, buy and network.

February 2-7: Singapore Airshow
The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) will be taking a group of UK businesses to the Singapore Airshow with UKTI support via the Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP). The Singapore Airshow is the biggest aerospace and defence exhibition in Asia serving as a global marketplace and networking powerhouse for the world aviation community.

- The UK has a highly diversified economy founded on a wide spectrum of successful industries with 75% of the Fortune 500 companies having offices in London.
- The UK is the world’s 6th largest manufacturer and manufacturing accounts for more than half our exports. And our manufacturing is high-tech, high-skill and high-end.
- 17 of the world’s 20 car component manufactures have UK production facilities and six out of 10 Formula One teams are based in the UK.
- The UK has over 13% of the global turnover in aerospace manufacturing. The Airbus A380 – the largest, most advanced and environmentally friendly commercial aircraft ever made – is more than one-third British made.
- The UK has been awarded over 20 Nobel Prizes in life sciences. The UK produces 9% of the world's scientific papers and have a citation share of 12%, second only to the US. One fifth of all medicines globally are developed in the UK.

- Of the top 25 innovations over the last 25 years, key parts of the first four come from the UK: the internet; the cell phone with GSM services; GPRS; and dual mode 3G started in the UK.
- The UK Government has created a new UK Innovation and Investment Fund backed by £150 million (approx. S$300 million) of Government funding to help invest in growing small businesses, start-ups and spin outs in the digital, life science, clean technology and advanced manufacturing sectors.
