Gourmet’s Choice: From Scotland to Singapore
Award winning Gourmet’s Choice Ltd have been smoking and curing fish in North East Scotland under four generations of the Sutherland family for over 100 years. Their traditional smoked salmon, reared in the cool clear waters of Scotland without artificial chemicals and preservatives, and under strict animal welfare standards, is now enjoyed in over 20 countries, and exports make up over 50% of the turnover.
Gourmet’s Choice exhibited at Food and Hotel Asia in Singapore in April 2008, as part of their strategy to develop the South East Asian market. An important part of the visit was a series of trade meetings and market presentations organised by the UKTI team in Singapore. This was followed up when Henry Angus, Sales Manager, was introduced to Stephane Herve of Elite Fine Foods, Singapore at the UKTI organised trade mission to the International Food and Drink Exhibition in London in March 2009, and a partnership was born. Stephane is a trained chef, with a speciality store, and has excellent contacts in the fine food industry.
Henry Angus said: ‘We look forward to developing a strong business in Singapore with Elite Fine Foods. UK Trade & Investment, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International have provided us with vital assistance in all of our export markets and as a small business we are most grateful for this support.’
