Fast Facts: UK Aerospace Excellence
The UK well understands the significance of Singapore and its pivotal role in the Asian marketplace. The UK Government and the UK aerospace industry were represented well at the Singapore Airshow from 14 - 19 February 2012. An official UK group was led by ADS, the leading UK trade organisation for the aerospace, defence security and space sectors.
Lord Green, Minister for Trade and Investment visited Singapore from 14 - 15 February to reinforce UK's excellence in significant sectors like Aerospace, which have a sizeable footprint in Singapore and Asia. Read his goodwill message here [PDF, 150KB, opens in new window].

- The UK has the largest aerospace industry in Europe and the second largest in the world (after the USA), with a 17 per cent global market share.
- Roll Royce will open a new half a billion dollar plant in Singapore later this month. The engine maker will assemble its Trent engines and manufacture the fan blades that go into them at the facility.
- More than 40 companies manufacture vehicles in the UK ranging from global volume car, van, truck and bus builders, to specialist niche makers.
- 11 of the world’s volume vehicle manufacturers have a UK presence, supported by 19 of the world’s top 20 suppliers.
- Today, the Airbus sites at Filton, near Bristol, and Broughton, North Wales. Around 140,000 jobs are generated in the UK by Airbus wing work, directly as well as indirectly through supplier contracts. Airbus’ presence in Filton will be enhanced with the future construction of a new aerospace business park.
