Digital Britain Clean Technology sector in Singapore

Singapore has released its sustainable-development blueprint which projects that environment and water technologies and clean energy solutions will each contribute $1.7 billion to GDP in the next six years.

To grow the clean technology- 'Cleantech' - sector, a $680 million fund has been set aside for research and development (R&D) and manpower training.  read more

Singapore economic snippets

1) GSK marks 50 years in Singapore with new S$600 million vaccines manufacturing plant
GSK has invested S$1.5 billion (£0.65 billion) into Singapore to date, hiring over 1,000 employees. As part of a 10-year strategic roadmap for its Singapore business, the new facility will commence production in 2011, and will be one of the few in the world that can produce biologic drugs.

2) Economic Strategies Committee (ESC) to look into economic transformation
Singapore government announced on 27 May the formation of the ESC for an in-depth strategic review of the economy. Finance Minister Tharman to chair the committee, which will comprise representatives from the public and private sectors, and the labour movement.

The committee will devise new ways to grow the economy for the long term, based on 5 broad strategies:- exploring new growth areas; anchoring global companies in Singapore & nurturing home-grown enterprises; attracting talent; creating high-value jobs for locals; and maximising resources such as land & energy.

3) 'Good prospects' for Asia's aerospace sector
The aviation industry may be going through turbulent times but the mid-to long term prospects for Asia's aerospace sector are strong. Singapore Transport Minister Raymond Lim said that the total revenue for Asia-Pacific region, which hit US$22 billion in 2008, expected to treble by 2030.
