Promote a low carbon, high growth, global economy

The British High Commission Singapore is the UK's diplomatic representation in Singapore. One of its main objectives is to promote a low carbon, high-growth economy in Singapore and the region. It takes this action on the basis that climate change is not just an environmental challenge - but also a threat to the global economy and security. The UK is committed to reducing its emissions by 34% by 2020, and 80% by 2050 (based on 1990 levels). Its work in South East Asia includes efforts to encourage an ambitious outcome at the climate change talks in Durban, South Africa in December 2011. It is also working with a range of stakeholders to support the introduction of low carbon initiatives and policies.
