Singapore Internship Scheme

What will I be doing?

Students will be involved in a range of activities encompassing trade and investment, policy and/or corporate work.  These are likely to include:

  • providing briefings for the High Commissioner/Section Head
  • assisting in organising high-profile events/visits
  • undertaking market research on the business environment
  • compiling economic/political reports
  • contributing to foreign policy papers requiring research/ statistical analysis

Progress reviews will be arranged with you at regular intervals during your internship, at the end of which, you will be invited to report on your experience.

Have I got what you’re looking for?

We are looking for undergraduate students with a strong interest in current and foreign affairs. The successful candidate will have good communication skills (written and oral), be able to deliver results and have strong inter-personal skills.

When do placements take place?

Placements start in May-July and last for approximately 3 months. Precise dates will be negotiated with successful candidates.

Will I get paid?

Yes. Successful candidates will be paid a stipend of $500 per month.  You will also be covered under our workmen’s compensation insurance. 

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible you must:

  • have the right to work in Singapore.  Full-time matriculated students registered for an internship by their education institute may be exempt from CPF contributions / work permit requirements.
  • be on a degree/masters course – advantageous, but not required, to be studying in an area related to international relations and foreign affairs.
  • be available to start work in May-July 2012.
  • successful candidates must undergo security clearance before being formally appointed.

Applications will close in end-February (last day of the month), with interviews in March (either in person or through video-conference). Dates will be announced on our website nearer the time.

Successful candidates may need to obtain written approval to undergo the internship from the educational institution in which they are enrolled.
